Just because

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I think that one of the most insidious concepts being pushed upon us, by the world at large, is that our value as a human being is defined by our physical beauty. Thus, we spend an inordinate amount of time worrying about and attending to the shape of our body, the symmetry of our face, the colour of our hair, the shine on our nails, and on and on it goes.

My greatest heroes, the real, live, breathing ones, are mostly beautiful of soul and very imperfect (by the world's standards) in their appearance. And while I often bemoan my wrinkles, my extra pounds, and my aching body, I cannot let that be the focus of my life, because there are so many other things that are important to me.

That little rant being over, I cannot help myself with this baby.
She is physical perfection.
I shall have to spend a disproportionate amount of time, as this baby girl matures, reminding her that "it's better to be nice than pretty".

So, bear with me, the doting Nana, while I share the joy.
I think her personality, which is very sweet, shines through.

Too much?

  2. She is absolutely a perfect little doll! And I agree, the most beautiful people I can think of are the ones that are beautiful in their spirit. Their love and goodness pour out from them. Wrinkles, extra pounds, whatever, none of that really matters or hides true beauty.

  4. I totally agree with everything you wrote. Even those whom we think look perfect, hate something or many things about themselves. We should accept what we have and be happy with it. If we all looked the same, the world would be quite boring.

  5. No need for apologies. Being a Gramma myself, I just want to snuggle and hug these precious little angels until they can't stand it any more. I love coming home and picking up a dancing (rocking the saucer he plays in) Robert and he rights my woes and world-weary soul. The Lord knew we needed these moments. Enjoy every single one (I am sure you do)and isn't it grand to be a Gramma?? I just LOVE it!

  6. I agree with everything you say. I wish I could internalize it though. We're always so hard on ourselves.

  8. As I was reading, Ms. Poppins' resumee jumped into my head. "Practically perfect in every way." Only time will tell. And how did you get her to sit still for all those picture? When she's with me she has to be on my shoulder and taxied around.
